The Cerulean Flower of Lutes is a devotional form of music originally devised by the elf Emima Adoredtemple. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. The music is played on a umola and a ilare. The musical voices bring melody and counterpoint. The entire performance is moderately fast. The melody has phrases of varied length, while the counterpoint has long phrases throughout the form. Chords, seldom-used, are sparse -- intervals and single pitches are favored. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to glide from note to note and locally improvise.
