The Bewilderment of Glossing
The Bewilderment of Glossing is a form of music used during marches and military engagements originally devised by the elf Lesana Snarledbands. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. The music is played on a sacat and a addor. The musical voices are joined in melody. The entire performance should feel agitated and is extremely fast. The melody has short phrases throughout the form. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to use mordents and alternate tension and repose.
- The addor always does the main melody and glides from note to note.
- The Bewilderment of Glossing has the following structure: a verse and a chorus.
- The verse is voiced by the melody of the sacat and the melody of the addor. The passage is to start loud then be immediately soft. The addor covers its entire range from the resonant low register to the shrill high register. This passage features only melodic tones and intervals. The passage should be composed and performed using legato.
- The chorus is voiced by the melody of the addor. The passage is to be in whispered undertones. The addor stays in the vibrating middle register. Only one pitch is ever played at a time in this passage.
