The Saffron Bride
The Saffron Bride is a form of music used during marches and military engagements originally devised by the dwarf Led Plaitedtool. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. A chanter recites any composition of The Saffron of Scholars while the music is played on a vagush and a luzat. The musical voices bring melody with harmony. The entire performance is very fast, and it is to become softer and softer. The melody has mid-length phrases throughout the form. The music is broadly layered with chords spanning the range. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to play legato.
- The chanter always does harmony and should be graceful.
- The vagush always does the main melody, should be fiery and plays arpeggios.
- The luzat always does harmony and should perform with a light touch.
- The Saffron Bride has a well-defined multi-passage structure: a lengthy introduction, a passage and a finale.
- In the introduction, the vagush ranges from the liquid middle register to the wavering high register, the chanter's voice stays in the middle register and the luzat stays in the heavy low register.
- In the simple passage, the vagush stays in the liquid middle register, the chanter's voice ranges from the low register to the middle register and the luzat covers its entire range.
- In the finale, the vagush stays in the wavering high register, the chanter's voice ranges from the low register to the middle register and the luzat stays in the heavy low register.
