The Carmine Lark
The Carmine Lark is a devotional form of music originally devised by the goblin Ngokang Poisonsilenced. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. A speaker recites nonsensical words and sounds while the music is played on one to three odgu. The musical voices are joined in melody. The entire performance should be made sweetly. The melody has mid-length phrases throughout the form. Only one pitch is ever played at a time. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to glide from note to note and play legato.
- Each odgu always does the main melody.
- The Carmine Lark has a well-defined multi-passage structure: a theme, a lengthy exposition of the theme and a recapitulation of the theme.
- The theme accelerates as it proceeds, and it is to fade into silence. Each of the odgu covers its entire range from the heavy low register to the raspy high register.
- The exposition is half the tempo of the last passage, and it is to become louder and louder. Each of the odgu covers its entire range from the heavy low register to the raspy high register.
- The recapitulation is at a walking pace, and it is to be loud. Each of the odgu ranges from the heavy middle register to the raspy high register.
