The Chant of Mothers

The Chant of Mothers is a form of music used during marches and military engagements originally devised by the goblin Stasost Limphate. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. A singer recites nonsensical words and sounds while the music is played on three ugu and a onla. The music is melody and rhythm without harmony. The entire performance should be made sweetly, and it is to be very loud. The melody has long phrases throughout the form. Never more than an interval sounds at once. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm.

• Each ugu always does the main melody and locally improvises.
