The Tulips of Fanciness
The Tulips of Fanciness is a devotional form of music originally devised by the goblin Snodub Curseglacier. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. The music is played on a spamo, a dumo, a stol and a udu. The musical voices join in melody and counterpoint, harmony and rhythm. The melody has phrases of varied length, while the counterpoint has long phrases throughout the form. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm.
- The spamo always does the main melody.
- The dumo always does harmony. The voice uses its entire range from the watery low register to the fragile high register.
- The stol always provides the rhythm.
- The udu always does the counterpoint melody.
- The Tulips of Fanciness has the following structure: a passage and another one to two passages possibly all repeated.
- The first simple passage should feel mournful and is moderately paced, and it is to be in whispered undertones. The spamo stays in the dull middle register and the dumo covers its entire range from the watery low register to the fragile high register. This passage typically has some sparse chords.
- Each of the second simple passages should be passionate and is slow, and it is to be loud. The spamo stays in the piercing high register and the dumo covers its entire range from the watery low register to the fragile high register. This passage features only melodic tones and intervals.
