The Flute of Cherishing
The Flute of Cherishing is a form of music used to commemorate important events originally devised by the elf Rofa Lyricalfeed. The form guides musicians during improvised performances. A singer recites the words of My Friend Rooters. The melody has short phrases throughout the form. Only one pitch is ever played at a time. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, performers are to alternate tension and repose.
- The singer always does the main melody and should perform expressively.
- The Flute of Cherishing has a well-defined multi-passage structure: an introduction, a lengthy first theme, a brief exposition of the first theme, a bridge-passage, a brief second theme, an exposition of the second theme, a bridge-passage and a brief synthesis of previous passages.
- The introduction is fast, and it is to be in whispered undertones. The singer's voice covers its entire range.
- The first theme is at a walking pace, and it is to be very loud. The singer's voice ranges from the middle register to the high register.
- The first exposition gradually slows as it comes to an end, and it is to be very loud. The singer's voice ranges from the low register to the middle register.
- The first bridge-passage is moderately paced, and it is to be very loud. The singer's voice covers its entire range.
- The second theme gradually slows as it comes to an end, and it is to be soft. The singer's voice ranges from the middle register to the high register.
- The second exposition is consistently slowing, and it is to become louder and louder. The singer's voice ranges from the low register to the middle register.
- The second bridge-passage is slow, and it is to become softer and softer. The singer's voice covers its entire range.
