The Droplet of Glittering
The Droplet of Glittering is a form of music used during marches and military engagements originally devised by the dwarf Obok Towerprices. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. Three singers recite nonsensical words and sounds. The entire performance should be stately and is very slow. The melody has short phrases throughout the form. Only one pitch is ever played at a time. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to alternate tension and repose.
- Each singer always does the main melody.
- The Droplet of Glittering has a well-defined multi-passage structure: a first theme, an exposition of the first theme, a lengthy second theme, an exposition of the second theme and a synthesis of previous passages.
- The first theme is to start loud then be immediately soft. Each of the singers' voices ranges from the middle register to the high register.
- The first exposition is to be in whispered undertones. Each of the singers' voices ranges from the low register to the middle register.
- The second theme is to be loud. Each of the singers' voices ranges from the low register to the middle register.
- The second exposition is to fade into silence. Each of the singers' voices ranges from the middle register to the high register.
- The synthesis is to be loud. Each of the singers' voices ranges from the middle register to the high register.
