The Flaxen Hill
The Flaxen Hill is a devotional form of music directed toward the worship of Zepave Fishweather originally devised by the elf Ameli Rhymedlizard. The form guides musicians during improvised performances. A chanter recites any composition of The Truth of Poetry while the music is played on two mirise. The music is melody and rhythm without harmony. The entire performance is at a free tempo, and it is to be loud. The melody has short phrases throughout the form. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, performers are to play rapid runs and modulate frequently.
- The chanter always does the main melody and should be joyful.
- Each mirise always provides the rhythm and should feel mysterious.
- The Flaxen Hill has the following structure: a brief passage and another one to two passages.
- In the first simple passage, the chanter's voice stays in the middle register and each of the mirise stays in the strident low register. Chords are packed close together in dense clusters in this passage.
- In each of the second simple passages, the chanter's voice ranges from the middle register to the high register and each of the mirise stays in the shrill high register. Only one pitch is ever played at a time in this passage.
