The Mountainous Clearing

The Mountainous Clearing is a light poetic form intended to describe Iden Mintsplashes originally devised by the dwarf Zasit Paddledtaper. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is a single tercet. The Mountainous Clearing is always written from the perspective of the author. Use of juxtaposition is characteristic of the form. Forms of parallelism are common throughout the poem, in that certain lines have similar grammatical structures, they sometimes have reversed word orders and they reverse grammatical structures. The third line of the tercet must expand the idea of the first line. The first line has three feet with a syllable weight pattern of long-short-short (quantitative dactylic trimeter). The second line has three feet with a syllable weight pattern of short-short-long (quantitative anapaestic trimeter). The third line has three feet with a syllable weight pattern of short-long (quantitative iambic trimeter).
